“How does she know you love her?”

In 2007, Disney released a loving self-parody titled Enchanted. It’s about a princess named Giselle (Amy Adams) who lives in a beautiful place called Andalasia. She’s rescued by the ✨dreamy✨ Prince Edward (James Marsden) and the two are set to get married.

However, Giselle is pushed into a well by Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) and is transported to New York City! Here she meets Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) who take her in. Giselle and Morgan quickly get along, but Patrick is disturbed by Giselle’s whimsical behavior. Soon she is discovered by Robert’s girlfriend Nancy (Idina Menzel) who now believes Robert is cheating on her.

Robert is upset with Giselle at first, but as the two spend the day together, Giselle helps him come up with a plan to make Nancy feel loved by sending her flowers and an invitation to the upcoming costume ball.

Meanwhile, Prince Edward is searching for his beloved princess and when the two meet… Giselle finds that she cannot spontaneously finish his song?? How could this be happening??

The rest of the movie is Robert and Giselle falling in love, Narissa trying to kill Giselle, Robert having to give Giselle true loves kiss, Giselle having to save Robert from Narissa (who transformed into a dragon… EPIC), Nancy and Prince Edward falling in love, and Giselle staying in our world to become a fashion designer.

This movie is pure FUN. It’s sweet, the songs are catchy, the acting is perfect, and the film both mocks and admires traditional Disney tropes.

There is a sequel called Disenchanted and it’s… fine? Not as good as the first, but still a fun watch.
