He helped her achieve her dream… and in return, she became his new dream. <3

Tangled is Disney’s popular reimagining of the classic Brothers Grimm story Rapunzel. I think most of us are familiar with the story of a young maiden with insanely long hair being rescued out of a super tall tower, but Disney’s version has some key differences that makes the story all the more magical.

It’s almost Rapunzel’s 18th birthday and she’s wishing for one thing only: to see the floating lights that the (unfortunately named) Corona Kingdom sends off every year in the hopes that their lost princess will return home. However, Mother Gothel refuses to let her “precious flower” leave the tower.

Meanwhile, three thieves are on the run after stealing the crown of the long lost princess. Two of them are caught, but the suave Flynn Rider finds the perfect hiding spot: Rapunzel’s tower. After knocking the thief out with a frying pan, Rapunzel hides the satchel containing the crown and strikes a deal. If Flynn takes her to see the floating lights before her mother returns home, she’ll give him the crown back. He begrudgingly agrees and the fun begins!

Rapunzel gains confidence in her skills as she interacts with people besides her mother for the first time and Flynn begins to realize that there’s more to life than material riches.

Tangled is a movie filled with memorable characters, great music, and a soundtrack that’s pure fun. I also find Rapunzel’s struggles to be relatable as I was a very sheltered child. Only in the past couple of years have I been able to have any sort of independence. I think this movie could honestly metaphor for growing up and gaining independence- finding your people and realizing that the world (while flawed) isn’t as scary as you might think.

Also, “I See The Light” is the best Disney duet. Period.
